Three Hot Web Design Trends
In this blog post, we spoke with Jessica Walker of Zoda Design to get her take on the hottest web design trends. While there are many, she narrowed it down to her top three tips for tricking out a business website. While the terminology might not make sense to everyone, you’ll recognize these design trends by our descriptions and the examples used in this post. Remember, Jessica has used all of these techniques and more on many of the websites she’s designed for her clients. She can use them on your site, too.
Without any further ado, here are Jessica’s top three web design enhancements:
Drop Shadows and Depth
To be perfectly honest, the use of shadows to create depth isn’t the latest thing to come to web design. It’s been around for a while. I mention it here because web designers can do a lot more with shadows now than we ever could before. This can be a huge benefit for your website. Today, we’re able to use grids and parallax layouts to utilize shadows to create depth and the appearance of a world beyond the computer screen. This is much better than the flat design trends that went out years ago.
Improving the user experience or UX is the best way for your web designer to use shadows. One way Jessica does this is by using subtle shadows as hover states to designate a link. She also combines shadows with vibrant colors – part two on this list – to enhance the three dimensional appearance of the shadows. There are many other things Jessica can do using this technique. If you’d like some shadowplay to add some depth to your site, ask Jessica about it. New and returning visitors will love the improvements!
Bold Colors for Website Design
If you visit a variety of websites, you’ll probably notice that bold colors are in this year. Business owners want their websites to be bold, adventurous, and eye catching, after all, and vibrant colors are a great way to attract attention. Due to advancements in desktop monitors and other devices with screens, web designers have a greater palette with which to design your website. Why go mild when you can go wild? Even moderately wild can be the proverbial shot in the arm that your website needs.
It should come as no surprise that a bold, vibrant person such as Jessica is a master of rich and vivid website colors. Her artistic eye will add some much-needed life to any website. I’m personally impressed with the way she integrates these vivacious shades with creative headers that utilize splashes and hard angles. The end result is a website that attracts and holds people’s attention, which ups the owner’s chance of having their marketing message read. Her use of color can really help set you apart, and it’s something any business owner should consider.
Color Gradients and Website Design
No blog post about website design is complete with discussing color gradients. In web design terminology, it’s the use of a color that either gets more or less intense in its shade. More and more websites are utilizing increasing or decreasing gradients of color, usually a vibrant color. Another way to use gradients would be to transition from one bold color to another bold color in order to add a rich, vibrant look to your website. Gradients in general help to add more flavor and life than simply using one color tone, even if it’s a bold one. Gradient filters are typically used as backgrounds, but also can also be placed over photos to make them appear more dynamic and intriguing.
Gradients can be an excellent way to visually improve your website, but you can’t use them willy-nilly. Trust your web designer when he or she tells you the best way to make use of this artistic design technique. Jessica has added effective gradients to many websites, and she’s an excellent source of information on them. Tell her you’re interested in adding a gradient or two to your site and listen to her suggestions on the best place(s) to put them. You’ll be glad you did!
